I’m thinking about applying for the Project Management Professional exam. Do I have enough experience?
The PMP handbook says that if you have a bachelor’s degree, you need "Minimum three years/36 months unique non-overlapping professional project management experience during which at least 4,500 hours were spent leading and directing project tasks*
*Leading and directing project tasks as identified in the Project Management Professional Examination Specification."
If you have a copy of the Project Management Professional Examination Specification, and would be willing to share what it says about leading and directing project tasks, I’d be grateful.
Dear David,
‘Project Management Professional Examination Specification’ is available for sale at PMI marketplace for $ 39.95. If you are an active member of PMI, you can purchase it for $ 31.95 (by availing $ 8 membership discount).
It is available at the following location:
http://www.pmi.org/Marketplace/Pages/ProductDetail.aspx?GMProduct=00100075001
In general, ‘leading and directing project tasks’ means that you should have been responsible for their management. You should have planned for them, as well as managed and controlled their execution.
Please go through my blog for more information on determining your eligiblity for the PMP exam.
Best Regards,
Raja
