A Red Cross Goes Green: EPA Environmental Justice Competition:
This is the story of how I got my American Red Cross Chapter Green Business Certified in Santa Barbara, CA*. I am an AmeriCorps National Preparedness and Response Corps member. If you haven’t heard of the program I can describe it simply as the “Domestic Peace Corps”. Our service requires a certain amount of hours at a chosen non-profit organization, disaster relief deployment, volunteering time outside the home organization, and a special project. For the last requirement I chose to study the topic I will soon return to school to study; Environmental Management and Natural Resources.
My regular job is somewhat related as well, I run a program called Masters of Disaster where I give free presentations to schools and organizations about the science and safety behind natural disasters… and I absolutely love it! I enjoy the challenge of taking typically mundane topics and making them entertaining to people of all ages. I hope I have succeeded this time in leaving those who watch a smile on their face and a feeling of hope. My co-workers have shown me that small groups of people from all different backgrounds can join together to conserve our natural resources and make decisions with the future in mind. I believe in a future where we can all live sustainably and in harmony with each other, ourselves, and our world.
Inside this way of thinking lives a message about Humanity and the way we chose to view ourselves within a much bigger picture. As global citizens we are all in this together!

Thanks for your time! Really though, 4 minutes is long for a youtube video!
